5 Things to Check Before Buying a Used Car in Calgary

Buying a used vehicle in Calgary is a big decision, and a little preparation goes a long way. Whether you are after a truck, SUV, car or van, here are five things worth checking before you sign.

1. Ask for the vehicle history report

A history report shows past accidents, registration history and any liens. Reputable dealers share this up front. If a seller hesitates, that is a red flag.

2. Look for a mechanical fitness assessment

A mechanical fitness assessment (MFA) is an inspection that confirms the vehicle’s key systems are in working order. At Weelo Motors, an MFA is available on our vehicles so you know what you are buying.

3. Test drive in real conditions

Take the vehicle on city streets and on Deerfoot or Memorial Drive. Listen for unusual noises, check how it brakes, and make sure the heat, defrost and A/C all work. Calgary weather swings fast, so you want everything working.

4. Check the tires and winter readiness

Look at tire tread and ask whether the vehicle has all-season or winter tires. Also confirm the battery is healthy, since cold mornings are hard on weak batteries.

5. Get the full price in writing

Ask for the total price including all fees and taxes. We believe in honesty and transparency in every deal, with no hidden fees.
